I’ve photographed many weddings at Morden Hall (see my Morden Hall Portfolio), so I was really looking forward to this one! Morden Hall is in a beautiful tranquil space within National Trust land, so is perfect for a wedding, with lots of options for locations for group photos and romantic couple portraits.
I love shooting weddings at Morden Hall as it has so much to offer. I love that the landscaping is natural and rustic, which complemented the feeling of a winter wedding perfectly. The 18th century country house has been beautifully renovated and offers the perfect civil ceremony and reception setting.
I’d met up with Laura and Alex back in the summer for their engagement shoot on Wimbledon Common. We had such a laugh together, they are a very cool laid back couple and I knew their wedding was going to be as fun as they are.
the preparations
The morning started with a bunch of excitable rugby boys helping each other get dressed which was highly entertaining for both them and me. Then I headed down the hall to see the bride Laura and her team of bridesmaids who were equally in high spirits and enjoying a glass or two of bubbly. Laura’s dress was gorgeous, so sophisticated and elegant and suited her perfectly, she looked absolutely stunning. And the look on her dad’s face said it all when he entered the room for the first time, priceless.
The ceremony
The ceremony was held at Sacred Heart Church in nearby Wimbledon. A beautiful large church with ornate detailed interior that was the perfect setting. Alex was waiting there with his groomsmen, laughing their way through the day, seemingly taking it all in his stride. Laura arrived in the brisk winter winds just as the rain began to fall ready to make her grand entrance. It was a lovely ceremony, and with all the official paperwork signed it was back to Morden Hall for the celebrations to begin.
the reception
It was chilly outside but dry enough to get out for the photographs in the beautiful grounds, which are stunning at any time of the year. The venue is incredibly light and bright inside which works great for a winter wedding. The guests were all in good spirits and enjoying the day with the happy couple. The speeches were all hilarious and had everyone laughing in hysterics. The atmosphere was buzzing full of love and laughter and the party continued in that fashion as the high heels were kicked off and the dance moves busted out on the floor!
