This spring marquee wedding was filled with vibrant colour and packed with personality. The ceremony was held at the bride Lydia’s local church, St Christophers in Haselmere and the reception at The Royal School which has a close connection to her family and where she had attended school. I had visited Haselmere earlier in the year to meet Lydia and Alexander for their engagement shoot at Devil’s Punch Bowl which is very close to where the wedding was taking place and somewhere the couple love to go walking. And what a fantastic location it was, we got amazing shots and it was lovely to get to know them more before their wedding day.
The groom Alexander is a Scotsman so all the boys were kitted out in the full traditional attire and they were looking just the part. I met them in the morning at their nearby accommodation as they were putting the final touches on their outfits. Their spirits were high, the laughter in full swing and all toasted off with glorious mug of tea!
I then joined the ladies over at Lydia’s parents house where preparations were underway. There were people dotted everywhere and lots of excitement for the day ahead. With vibrant colours popping in the flowers and dresses it conveyed the sense of spring perfectly. Lydia looked utterly beautiful and her dad’s reaction was priceless when he saw his little girl walk down the stairs ready to go and be married.
The ceremony was emotional and touching with lots of personal connections to the bride and groom. Then with the all important words spoken, the confetti thrown the newlyweds led the way to the school grounds for the marquee reception.
The huge marquee comfortably housed all the guests and there was a real buzz of excitement as chatter and laughter filled the air. In keeping with the Scottish traditions Alexander and friends serenaded the guests before the wedding breakfast with a wonderful display of the bagpipes which went down a treat. Then into the speeches which were top class and absolutely hilarious. The father of the bride smashed it, he told a story with each and every person in the room captivated and crying with tears of laughter.
Everyone fed and watered and it was now time to party and it kicked off with the best wedding band I have ever witnessed! OMG The Fabulous Hurricanes were insane and the dance floor was instantly flooded with an array of body popping dance moves!!
This spring marquee wedding was as bright and vibrant as the colours that dressed the day. Lydia and Alexander are a wonderfully kind couple and I was honoured to be part and their magical day xx
